[open] But I know I'll land here again
Character(s): Alucard + Open
Status: Open
Location(s): Krimnos -> Home in the mountains
Date(s) Start of April -> Einjar Expedition II, Electric Boogaloo
About: General catch all log
Warnings: To be added

Note: Castle is not representative of Usir canon castle, just roll with me on this
[Krimnos is mostly for picking up supplies these days, then departing for home. Alucard's affection for the city has grown slightly, such as it is. Any place that encourages such dedication to technological development has earned that much, just as it has focused it's efforts on exploration and understanding. Einjar was proof of that. But he doesn't linger in the city, not when home is two days away.
Those looking for him there are most likely to find him in market spaces, or else in the part of the city dedicated to invention. He does little but observe in the latter space.
On the road between home and Krimnos, Alucard is all too keenly aware of the world around him. There is, of course, the little hamlet that marks the half-way point between home and the city, and he rests there between his trips. With warmer evenings out, he takes advantage of the one inn that boasts of a patio for evening meals, and can be found there with food remaining on his plate and a glass of probably too-dark wine in hand, barely drunk. For all the world, they look closer to props that let him settle in for a time, taking in the world around him.
Home is still a crumbling castle, whose remaining spire still reaches up towards the heavens. It is aged, save for the new lock on the door that makes it clear that this long thought cursed relic is inhabited by the living.]

Linear or not, if you two are around... I think I'll be all right. [ Eventually. Definitely not now, and probably not for a while to come. But eventually.
Considering for a moment, she looks back out on the still-sunny afternoon and flicks the tip of her tail. ]
A walk could be nice. I'm not ready to go inside just yet.
no subject
Likewise, Alucard doesn't know if he's managed to dry all of Sypha's tears. He hopes he's done enough. (He feels he'll never do enough.)]
A walk we can do. [He feels the motion of her tail, and his eyes drift towards it.]
Do you intend to hold me the entire walk?

She hasn't failed to notice that things seem different between Trevor and Alucard in the few days since she arrived. They still bicker, of course, but there's no heat in it. They've been back for some time now, on their own without her, so she's glad they haven't torn each other apart. She'd always wanted them to get along better before, and she supposes this counts. ]
Do you travel often to the city? If we're going to record my voice somehow, I'd like to investigate that soon.
no subject
[Maybe she did. The strange status of what he is with Trevor and what they both are to Sypha means that touch is a strange thing. In a bad light, it'd look like romancing someone other than the Belmont. And...that's the crux, isn't it? All of this happened only because Sypha was gone, and they both agreed that of the three of them, she was the one easiest to be devoted to.
She's too far away to offer an arm to lean on. Sypha's feet are also far too well suited for the terrain, which means Alucard has to put real effort into keeping pace. It's strange when that happens, but never a struggle. It's nice, being the normalish one.]
We've been going once every two weeks or so to get things for the house and fresh food. The town we stop in half way has a market during the growing season, but we've only been here since January.
I assumed you'd be coming with us on the next run.
no subject
Waiting for him to catch up, Sypha and Alucard walk side by side. ]
I can't wait for the markets and all the fresh fruit. We can start storing up things for the winter, preserving things. Wouldn't that be nice? A good side project.

[Alucard knows that if he's protective, Trevor's even more so. Hell, Trevor barely lets Alucard out of his sight most days, and that's been true since February and the pit and dying. They both agreed that if Sypha returned, then preventing her from dying at all was the priority.
His hand reaches downward and back a litle, not trying to catch Sypha's tail exactly, but it is within range for the thing to swing forward, land around his wrist, and not let go.]
My mother had a method for such things, although I'm afraid I don't remember them now. [That's said with a softer sigh, for the memory of what it was like watching the entire kitchen be packed into jars with a little bit of science and a lot of hard work and for the loss of that knowledge.] And I don't believe Trevor ever had that knowledge.
[The clearing around the castle changes as they continue. There's trees now, growing thicker and thicker as they walk through. But in that there is light, filtering down beautiful and brilliant onto the forest floor. A few remaining spots of snow reflect the light back.]
I forget how dearly this place clings to winter.

Her tail swings to and fro behind her as they walk, and if it so happens to bump into Alucard's hand and twist around his open palm just a bit, what's the problem? Neither of them has recoiled from the other's touch, so it doesn't hurt. ]
I know a few methods, and we can find recipes and instructions. We might not be able to do it exactly the way she did, but we can figure something out.
[ Her hooves sink slightly into the soft, damp earth as they walk together and she runs her hand over the bark of the nearest tree. Her blue skin is dappled with sunlight. ]
Spring will come soon enough. Does the castle get very hot with warmer weather?
no subject
Probably.
Everything is in progress, after all, and so is learning what the three of them being together looks like now. They were only in each other's orbit for such a short time in life. They didn't live together, or do things like have Sypha's tail reach over and take Alucard's hand.]
Mmm. A lot of it is science, and perhaps others have figured it out now too. It'd be worth asking after the next we're in the city.
[He'll look like a rube, but so be it.
Deeper into the woods then. The sunlight's filtered through a canopy of trees starting to bud again, and the ground's damnpess is a promise that spring will come. Alucard looks to Sypha, and God if the sunlight doesn't suit her. Far more than the castle's original darkness ever did.]
It did, but there were spells to cool it down. Those I remember, although it affects me less than it will the two of you.

[ Sypha looks back at him with a fond smile, her tail drawing him in a bit closer. She has no idea what she's doing, if she's being honest. The dynamics of their little trio had worked well when killing Dracula had been the objective, but what are they now? If she's being too forward, he doesn't seem to mind. ]
If magic was used to keep it cool before, I can do that now, once there's a need. Ice is simple enough to make. We could probably use it to keep food as well, now that I think on it. A cabinet lined with ice inside would help things stay fresh.
no subject
[Alucard lets himself be led closer. There's only a few inches between them now, and he wonders how appropriate this is with what he and Trevor have established now. It feels wrong, but...also not wrong at all. So maybe Sypha is being too forward. It doesn't matter, probably, if he's responding like this.]
Interesting. How would the cabinet maintain the right temperature so the ice didn't melt?
no subject
[ She considers his question as they walk, her hands half-forming the sigils for different spells as she does mental calculations. His nearness may be distracting, but only a bit. ]
Maybe I can find a way to suspend the ice somehow, and keep it from melting. Or perhaps it could be contained in tempered glass or crystal, and that would hold the water when it does melt. I could freeze it again every day or so.
no subject
[There's a little patch of sun up ahead. There, there that have been spring blooms. Not tall and bright daffodils, but small crocuses, mostly a deep purple in color. Alucard's feet begin to pull in that direction.]
Well, what if a spell regulates the temperature of the cabinet, so that the ice doesn't melt?
no subject
[ There's no bitterness in her voice at that comment. Well, maybe a hint. It was people's narrow-mindedness and backwards beliefs that had caused the death of her family, and her own death as well. She can't dwell on that for too long without becoming upset, so she shifts her focus. She also sees the flowers up ahead, so that's where they go. ]
If I could discover a spell that could regulate the cabinet's temperature, the ice wouldn't be necessary. It's worth looking into.
no subject
[That's what it feels like. There have been so many directions that the world has gone, and there are a few that have felt good. Everything else, slower acceptance.
Alucard's careful as they walk, content as anything. Among the flowers, there's a fallen tree, and Alucard's careful as he guides them both towards it.]
Well, it'll be up to you to make it happen. If I could offer you the usual resources, I would.
no subject
[ As they take a seat, Sypha's tail delicately releases Alucard's hand so they can arrange themselves on the log. She's not quite sure what to do with herself: their actions have said quite a lot, and now she's unsure of what to say with her words, or if she should say anything. Best to continue on with the thread of their conversation than to attempt broaching deeper topics. ]
Perhaps a library in Krimnos would have more information. I could probably write a spell myself if I had enough time to tinker with it.
no subject
[They're settled, but Sypha feels miles away. Alucard knows what that means, just as he knows that he's feeling the stupid, fluttery feeling in his chest that he gets around Trevor these days.
It's both wonderful and agonizing.]
Mmm. They're actually inventing a single book that can store dozens upon dozens of books within itself. I've seen the prototype for it.
no subject
I could imagine such a book saving a great deal of space, but I must admit that there's something charming about a large collection all the same. Is it magic or science? I would love to see it. Perhaps when we visit Krimnos?
no subject
[Alucard looks over to Sypha, and he pauses to brush some of his hair out of his face.]
We'll do that too. Maybe stay an extra day, just to get everything done that we need to get done.
