Seyra's Serenade: Didymos Market

Rey had had a harrowing time in the City of the Free Peoples, and that and the radio silence from the other two owners of the dragons she had quickly scooped back up and fled with after her resurrection has Rey heading back for the city she last saw Ben before he left for Krimnos. She hides her dragonets in a cave by the sea, leaving her tiny but fierce lizard animas to guard them, and takes to the streets.

After everything that happened with the wolf whose life she had taken, Rey had left the sword behind and now walked the streets without a weapon, her skin paler than usual. She needed money for food, and food for the four hungry mouths plus her own. The dragonets had not eaten for the two days she was dead, trapped in a cave, alone and probably afraid. She felt guilty just thinking about what would have happened to them if she had never returned.

Even now as she walks the streets she keeps losing the thread of it when the ghostly specter shows up in the corner of her eye. It's never there when she looks, but it's making her attempts to pick pockets or liberate some food very poor. Finally, she pulls off her necklace at a market stall, the vial only half full and glinting in the sun.

"I just need a basket of fish." It's a terrible deal, but she has nothing else to offer and she never cared for jewelry.

The Huntress

Rey isn't out in the wilderness to claim a bounty. She had heard about the creature stealing the injured prey of hunters and she had come to look for it. She needed to know her surroundings better, and part of that was understanding the wilderness around her. If she was going to teach three hungry young dragonets to hunt for their food, she couldn't risk losing them to a hungry beast.

She waits up in one of the twisted swamp trees, her back to the sturdy trunk and what looks like a small, winged cat on her shoulder. She has a small notebook in one hand, filled with sketches of various creature footprints she had come across so far, and an approximate sketch of the description the hunters had given her. Both of them quietly watch the marshy wet grounds below them for the master hunter of the Swamp of Lost Souls. At the sound of movement, Rey stashes her book and grabs her walking stick, two branches bound against one another with leather wraps at the ends, supporting her weight against the tree with her free hand, ready to try and watch or follow the creature.

What she hears is too small and light, but the hunters had told her it was silent, and she's ready to run if need be. But Amphy, excited by the thrill of something finally happening, blows their cover by chirping excitedly and racing Rey down the tree with her claws digging into the bark. Rey is forced to leap out of the tree and scoop up the over-eager dragonet, throwing her back against the bark and holding her breath after the commotion and noise the two of them just made.
