As she gains confidence in her own steps, Daud silently offers the option for her to lead in turn, still moving confidently, but more in response to where she goes than prompting her to fall into step with him.

“No point in doing something if you won’t try to do it well,” is his response, hooves tapping out a rapid staccato beat in time with the music as they step and spin through. That’s probably going to get him another jibe about being serious, so he’ll continue:

“Are you in the habit of pulling strangers in to dance, then, or just for tonight?”
