Throughout the whole flight, Ellie stays on the deck, watching the clouds and landscape below with wide eyes. While she's bundled up, the cold doesn't seem to bother her too much. At different points, she's sitting or standing to get different perspectives of the place. For those who've met her before, this seems almost uncharacteristic of Ellie - it's a completely different person from the somber, suspicious woman they met before. From a distance, she looks excited. Occasionally, she even grins when she sees something particularly interesting. She finally looks nineteen, and like she's having the time of her life.
Seated behind Ellie with its head on its paws is what might be a wolf, dog, or coyote. It looks slightly nervous, ears turned back, but is tolerating the height surprisingly well.
The only thing that would make this better, she thinks, were if Joel--in every way but the obvious, her father--were here to see this.]
